Convoy (Excerpt)
Was the dark of the moon on the sixth of June
In a Kenworth pullin’ logs
Cab-over Pete with a reefer on
And a Jimmy haulin’ hogs
We is headin’ for bear on I-one-oh
‘Bout a mile outta Shaky Town
I says, “Pig Pen, this here’s the Rubber Duck
And I’m about to put the hammer down …

Convoy Novelty Song
Written by Bill Fries and Chip Davis
Convoy is a novelty song performed by Bill Fries, under the pseudonym C. W. McCall. The song was written by Bill Fries and Chip Davis in 1975, with lyrics that capitalized on slang related to the mid-seventies citizens band (CB) radio fad.
The song spent six weeks at number one on the country charts and one week at number one on the pop charts. International audiences loved it too-the song went to number one in Canada, hitting the top of the RPM Top Singles Chart on January 24, 1976. It also reached number two in the UK.
Convoy was the inspiration for director Sam Peckinpah’s 1978 film of the same name.
Convoy Fun Fact
After the screenplay of Convoy was written, Bill Fries (also known as C. W. McCall) recorded a new version of the song, with lyrics that incorporated the characters and events of the film. This version plays during the final film credits.
